The works shown here were all created using a technique called paper clay.  Cellulose fibers are mixed into the clay which allows a greater freedom of design than conventional methods. Using paper clay and techniques he developed, Ron Vavra developed forms that were not seen before in the ceramic arts.

The outside of each piece is highly textured and the insides are air-brushed with delicate hues of acrylics, then sealed. While they may look fragile, they are in fact quite sturdy.
